Across the world in Western Medicine, the literature suggests that medical students and junior doctors have forgotten “the art of ophthalmoscopy” and are avoiding eye examinations where otherwise indicated.
To make up for this concerning trend, we have built a company, retinAR PTY LTD, from the ground up and are endeavouring to put a world class ophthalmological education in the pockets of medicine students across Australia and our third-world neighbours.
We’re currently developing an app which imbues clinical ophthalmologic education with vision, employing Augmented Reality (AR) technology and a smartphone’s accelerometer to teach fundal examinations to medical students and junior doctors.
Through our specialised clinical training, we’ve not only learned the mechanics and theory behind a world-class ophthalmoscopic exam but have encountered first-hand the immense learning curve which is stopping students from practicing one of the most important physical exams medicine has to offer.

Our Solution
retinAR PTY LTD is creating a free state-of-the-art teaching app that puts the guiding hands of Australia's best eye surgeons at the fingertips of budding medical students and junior doctors to teach proficiency at eye examination with a ubiquitous device known as an ophthalmoscope, hence improving the early detection of eye disease and enable treatment/monitoring in regional and remote communities of Australia.

Educational Opportunity and Value Proposition
TRADITIONAL OPHTHALMIC TRAINING IS EXPENSIVE
One day of Ophthalmic training at its cheapest, is estimated to be $200 per student, in the setting of large classes in a medical program.
APPS ARE AFFORDABLE & ACCESSIBLE
Most medical students and training doctors have access to mobile phones, more so than they do ophthalmoscopes! (which cost several hundred dollars at the cheapest)
This allows them to get their practice in, with a device they already own, without the outlay for any expensive hardware
MANY YOUNG DOCTORS NEED THIS
There are over 17,000 medical students in Australia who are potential customers who could benefit from this, over 25,000 early career doctors in Australia, and countless students and medical professionals globally…
